Inventions/Discoveries
His major discoveries were in the area of electricity and electromagnetism. In 1831, he began a experiment and later discovered induction. Later in 1831, using one of his induction rings, he generated and electrical current in a wire by using the electromagnetic effect of another wire. With this he made the first electric transformer. Another one of his experiments discovered that the metals sodium and potassium can be precipitated from their compounds through electrolysis. In the Faraday cage he discovered that that no large electric fields were present because the surface redistributes the charge so that any field inside the cage was canceled out.
